Time first
You can begin a statement with a time expression. It fills the first position, so the verb follows immediately and the subject comes after it. “Heute arbeite ich” means the same basic thing as “Ich arbeite heute”, with today brought to the front.
Time → verb → who → rest
Heute arbeite ich.
Today I am working.
Morgen kaufen wir Brot.
Tomorrow we are buying bread.
