Verb position

In a German statement, the conjugated verb occupies the second element. Start with who, follow with what they do, then add the rest. An element can contain several words: “Meine Kollegin” still takes one position.

Who → verb → rest
Ich arbeite heute.

I am working today.

Meine Kollegin wohnt in Berlin.

My colleague lives in Berlin.
